Description Clomid (Clomiphene Citrate)

Clomid (clomiphene citrate) belongs to antiestrogens. It helps to restore natural testosterone production after the cycles. Clomiphene Citrate also reduces the risks of gynecomastia during cycles with steroids which are prone to aromatization. Though some bodybuilders believe that Clomiphene Citrate induces production of LH and consequently testosterone, it is not the case. Clomid doesn’t stimulate pituitary and hypothalamus, but rather protect them from inhibition by estrogen.

Interaction with estrogen receptor

Clomid acts like a mixed estrogen agonist/antagonist. When it binds to estrogen receptor it changes its shape in different way than estrogen does. Estrogen receptor requires not only estrogen, but also different co-factors, without which it doesn’t work. Co-factors are tissue specific.

Some of them can bind to the complex of estrogen receptor and Clomiphene Citrate, but others cannot due to the change in shape. Thus in tissues with co-factors which can bind this complex, Clomiphene Citrate acts like agonist. Meanwhile in those tissues where co-factors are unable to bind receptor – Clomiphene Citrate complex, it acts like antagonist.

So, Clomiphene Citrate is rather effective antagonist in pituitary, hypothalamus and breast tissue. At the same time it acts as agonist in bone tissue. Clomiphene Citrate also improves blood cholesterol and reduces the exercise-induced damage in muscles. It doesn’t affect gains.

Clomid usage and side-effects

Clomid may effect the mood in “estrogenic way” or cause depression or symptoms resembling PMS. But this happens in rare occasions. Some bodybuilders think that the duration of Clomiphene Citrate usage shouldn’t last for more than 10 – 14 days, but it’s not the case. There are clinical studies proving that men can take it for a year or more. But as for the women, they shouldn’t exceed 10-14 days of its usage. This limitation is not out of toxicity. Clomid can cause overstimulation of ovulation, thus there is nothing good in menstruations lasting for a month or more.

Summary

Clomid is very helpful if you take easily aromatizable steroids. You can take it for no more than 2/3 of the year.
