Description Proscar (Finasteride)

Proscar (Propecia, Finasteride) is a hair growth medication, which is widely used to treat hair loss. Actually this is the first medication which effectively cures the baldness of male type (top and mid-scalp area). By its chemical activity it belongs to 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, in other words blocks the reduction of testosterone into DHT.

We know that DHT negatively affects the hair follicles, and eventually causes the hair loss. Besides, high levels of DHT can lead to prostate enlargement. Thus, by inhibiting the key reaction of testosterone conversion Proscar prevents the hair loss in men. It is also quite effective in treating prostate enlargement.

Usage in bodybuilding

Proscar became very popular among bodybuilders using steroids with high androgenic side-effects. Some steroids are already DHT derivatives (Androl, Primobolan, Winstrol) and thus there is nothing for Proscar to inhibit. However, all types of testosterone, Halotestin, Metandren are highly androgenic and this is where Finasteride does the job.

Dosage and Usage

If you take it to fight the hair loss or to reduce androgenic side-effects of steroids, 1 mg a day will be enough. The usual dose for treatment of prostate enlargement is 5 mg a day. Remember that concomitant use of Proscar and steroids can greatly reduce their effectiveness. So, use it when it’s absolutely necessary, otherwise there is no sense in taking steroids. Proscar does not affect DHT derivatives and even may increase the androgenic effect of Nandrolone and Trenbolone.

Side effects

Usually there are rare side-effects in men using Proscar. But in case of high dosages there may be sexual disorders due to androgen disbalance. Among them: decrease in libido, impotence, ejaculation disorders. There are also very rare cases of rashes, dizziness and weakness. Pregnant women or those who are going to be pregnant should keep away from this substance. It can penetrate through skin and make the damage to male fetus.
